August 2023
While school may be starting in Kanawha County in August, summer is still in full swing! MULTIFEST celebrates its 33rd year honoring diversity Aug. 3-6. This is the first year the event has expanded to 4 days. The list of performers continues to grow. For the most current info, go to multifestwv.org. All the MULTIFEST events will be held at Haddad Riverfront Park and are free to the public.
The “Downtown Art & Architecure Walking Tour” is held every weekend, Friday through Sunday. For info on the specific dates and times, go to countryroadstours.com. It is a little over a mile long and will last about an hour. The cost for the tour is $15 and begins at the Slack Plaza sculpture area.
“City Center at Slack Plaza” has many different events held throughout the summer. “Praise in the Park” will hold two worship services this month. There will also be a line-dancing class, “Open Mic” nights, live theater, and other performances you won’t want to miss.
“Live on the Levee” continues every Friday evening through Aug. 18. For that concert, the headliner will be “Shelem”. If you have seen
the cool rapper on the Tudor’s Biscuit World commercial promoting breakfast wraps with “Find Your Wrappiness”, you won’t want to miss his performance at the last “Live on the Levee” for 2023. This local rapper/civil engineer gets a lot of love from the Kanawha Valley!
“Capitol Market’s second “Bring Home the Bacon Party” is a celebration of National Farmer’s Market Week. The highlight of the Aug. 12 event will be a BLT contest between 8 contestants as the panel of lucky judges determine who indeed will “Bring Home the Bacon”! “Let’s Get Cooking” at the Capitol Market continues to be another popular event. Charleston’s own local Chef Paul Smith, a James Beard nominee, leads the audience through the prep and recipes for delicious, healthy dishes featuring local ingredients.
The Charleston Coliseum & Convention Center (the CC&CC) is the venue for the “Redneck Brawl 3: Hillbillies Get Wild!!!” on the 19th. This “Live on PPV”, Pay Per View event will host 25 wildly entertaining redneck brawls.
Summer may be starting to wind down, but CRW just continues rocking!
