March 2023

Spring is finally here and so are some really cool additions to downtown! Another new craft brewery has opened, thus making “Brewers Row” a fun destination for locals and travelers alike. Short Story Brewing joins Fife Street Brewing and Bad Shepherd Beer Company in offering many options for craft beer fans. Try at least three beers at each business, getting your “passport” stamped along the way, and you will earn a commemorative “Brewers Row” pint glass. With more than a dozen bars and restaurants close by and two distilleries now in town, Forbes magazine has even noticed and includes Charleston as a destination worth checking out!

Stand-up comedian, Nate Bargatze, brings his “clean and relatable” show to the Charleston Coliseum & Convention Center (CC&CC) on April 1st, no fooling! He has made 10 appearances on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and is selling out shows across the globe. Another popular stand-up comedian also selling out shows all over the US, Bert Kreischer, comes to the CC&CC with a show promising “cringe with real insight”. April 15th, “Bored Teachers We Can’t Make This Stuff Up Comedy Tour” comes to town with two shows. That is a LOT of comic entertainment in just two weeks!

“The Wizard of Oz” is being performed at the Clay Center at the beginning of the month, and the live performances continue with Broadway in Charleston’s “Annie”, and the Charleston Light Opera Guild bringing back the always popular “Kinky Boots”. “Annie” is also at the Clay Center and “Kinky Boots” will be at the CC&CC.

In celebration of Easter, the East End Community Park is the location of the “Senior Easter Egg Hunt”, for those 55+. Plenty of activities and prizes will be featured. Harley-Davidson of WV will be hosting its own version of egg hunts for children and adults, with a lot of other features and vendors to enjoy.

Festivall’s “Three Things: My First, My Favorite, My Future” is always a very entertaining way to get to know some of our local professionals a little better. This month, at the Capitol Market, the speakers are Mya Ross from WTSQ, Disc Jockey EJ Price, and Blenko Glass blower Alex Burdette.

Charleston Downtown ArtWalk is back and this month it is April 20. It is a  wonderful way to spend the evening enjoying the displays of local artists along with a special dinner in the neighborhood. Especially if it is warm enough to dine al fresco!

With sunshine and warm days ahead, Charleston is definitely buzzing with excitement!
