AUGUST 2022

Summer has been simply spectacular in Charleston this year! “FestivALL” and “The Sternwheel Regatta” were hugely successful and summer is slowly winding down. The kids will be back in school in just a few days and life in Charleston will be getting back to “normal”. But, what a terrific normal!

The Children’s Theatre of Charleston (CTOC) will be hosting a fundraiser at their location at 600 Tennessee Ave. on the 7th. Live music, crafts, art, vendors, and much more will be available. Tickets can be purchased at the door.  Charleston Light Opera Guild will be performing “Footloose: The Musical” at the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center’s Little Theatre over the course of the first two weekends of August.

The Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center (the CC&CC) is also the venue for the American folk rock band, “The Avett Brothers”, on Aug. 23. The recent $100 million renovation and expansion of the facility is bringing back the superstar entertainment that used to come to Charleston. In this fiscal year, there have been 8 sold-out events! The biggest news so far: Reba McEntire is bringing her show to town in October!

The Downtown ArtWalk, usually on the third Thursday of the month, is a super fun way to hang out downtown, grab a great meal at one of the many amazing local restaurants, and check out the artwork of local artisans. The evening continues at the Clay Center for it’s “Art After Dark” event.

Outdoor dining is still available on the weekends as the area of Capitol and Hale Streets block off traffic and local restaurants set up tables and chairs for their customers. The newly opened Slack Plaza is also a very cool place to chill out! Every Wednesday through August, food trucks will be parked there with food, music and other activities for the whole family!

VacationIdea.com recently compiled “The 22 Best Things To Do In Charleston, West Virginia” and the list is worth checking out on their website. Charleston is indeed a beautiful city with so much to offer. If you haven’t downloaded the Charleston Guide app, this would be the time to do it. It is an interesting and interactive way to enjoy your time here, whether you are new to town or a long time resident.

It is always a good time to explore “Hip, Historic, Almost Heaven Charleston”!
