JUNE 2022
Live on the Levee! Symphony Sunday! FestivALL! Father’s Day! West Virginia Day! SO much is happening in Charleston this month. The Main Branch of the Kanawha County Public Library re-opened last month after its $32 million renovation. Luke Bryan is coming to the Charleston Coliseum & Convention Center (CC&CC) and so are Brooks & Dunn!
The newly constructed “City Center at Slack Plaza” will be the site for the Rainbow Pride of West Virginia Festival events June 3-5. That same weekend, a one-of-a-kind bike show and rally is coming to Haddad Riverfront Park and the Levee. The “Rally on the Levee” will be packed full of bike competitions, live music, national pro custom bike builders, and vendors selling food, arts, and crafts.
FestivALL will be celebrating its 18th year June 14-28. There are literally dozens of different activities for the entire family. For a complete list of all the concerts and other events, visit the website: festivallcharleston.com. “Live on the Levee” just announced the entire summer line-up for the free concerts at Haddad Riverfront Park. The schedule can be found on its website.
On Father’s Day weekend, there are three huge sporting events in the community. The 2022 US Youth Soccer Eastern Presidents Cup tournament will be held at Shawnee Sports Complex. In the UC Stadium at Laidley Field,
the AAU Region 4 Qualifier is a Track and Field event that will include an expected 1,500+ athletes from Lake Erie, Ohio, Niagara, Western Pennsylvania, and West Virginia.
That same weekend, the nation’s largest Flatwater Kayak Community Event, and the main fundraiser for the Coal River Group’s restoration efforts, will take place at the western end of the county. Known as the extremely popular “Tour de Coal”, this 12 mile kayak trip is a “float”, not a “race”. On June 18, it will begin at Meadowood Park in Tornado and end in St. Albans. Last year’s event included over 1,500 kayakers. 2022 promises to be even bigger!
The 2022 US Youth Soccer Eastern Regional Championships takes place June 24-30. Many of these games will be at the Shawnee Sports Complex. There will be literally thousands of visitors to our city in June and Charleston has never looked more inviting!
June 30 marks the long-anticipated return of the Charleston Sternwheel Regatta. Stay tuned as that exciting schedule of events is announced.
There is NO doubt about it! Charleston is definitely proud to proclaim “YA GOTTA REGATTA!!!
