APRIL 2022
Spring in Charleston is always such a lovely and exciting time of the year! Everyone is so appreciative of the blossoming flowers, trees full of leaves, and SO much fun to be had outside in the sunshine. The restaurants are beginning to open their al fresco dining areas, the WV Home Show is back just in time for all the outdoor projects that have been put on hold, and there are many live performances of music and theater.
The Charleston Coliseum & Convention Center (the CC&CC) is the site for two extremely popular country music concerts, Alabama and Morgan Wallen. American rapper, Jeezy, will also be performing at the CC&CC in April.
For the third straight year, the WV Futbol Club (WVFC) will be hosting the annual Capital Cup at the Shawnee Soccer Complex. Last year’s tournament featured teams from WV and 5 surrounding states and the event is expected to only get bigger and better! On the 23rd, the YWCA will be holding the 6th annual “Race to End Racism”. The 5K Run/ 1 Mile Walk will be at Magic Island.
The United Way of Central West Virginia is bringing back “Dancing With the Stars 2022” on April 29! Many Charlestonians consider this to be the “social event of the season”. 6 couples who have committed to train together for the past several months will compete in this United Way fundraiser.
“Three Things”, a collaboration of West Virginia Public Broadcasting and FestivALL, is a monthly event during which three local celebrities discuss where they started, what they love most, and where they hope to go next with their careers. This has been held at the John L. Dickinson Family Homeowner’s Education and Community Center at 815 Court St. Tickets have been $10. In April, the venue and fee will most likely be changing. The new venue and ticket price are TBA.
Before we know it, school will be out for the summer, “Live on the Levee” will be back, the Charleston Sternwheel Regatta will be returning, and summer will be a blast!
