OCTOBER 2021
There is a LOT of cool happening in Charleston in October, and we aren’t just talking about the weather! If COVID doesn’t change any more of these events, there will be many concerts and other fun activities for everyone. However, just this past week, the WV Book Festival made the decision to be a virtual event on Oct. 22 & 23. There will be live-streamed presentations with bestselling authors as well as writing workshops.
“Live on the Levee” winds up the 2021 season on Oct. 1, with WV native and “America’s Got Talent” winner Landau Eugene Murphy, Jr. The next day, “Taste-of-ALL”, a popular food event, will be held at the Four Points Sheraton. A few days later, FestiFALL begins. Several concerts and other virtual events will take place around town. For a complete schedule, check out festivallcharleston.com.
“Mountain Stage” is splitting the venues this month for their two concerts. Oct. 3 will be at the Clay Center and the Oct. 10 show will be held at the WV Culture Center. They plan to perform to 100% capacity audiences. Three Dog Night, Jason Aldean, For King & Country, Judas Priest, and Foreigner are the big name acts coming to Charleston this month!
The eternally popular “Charleston Rod Run and Doo Wop” shuts down the Kanawha Boulevard with plenty of restored automotive masterpieces, music, and activities for the whole family.
Speaking of activities for the whole family, the 60 year-old train ride linking Huntington and Charleston to Hinton during the Hinton Railroad Days Festival is back. You can travel aboard luxurious railcars and enjoy the trip through the New River Gorge National Park. When the foliage is at peak, this is a spectacular experience.
Charleston Ballet presents a world premiere of the classic DRACULA. Charleston Ghost Tour Company’s Downtown Charleston Ghost Walks continue every Thursday through Saturday in October. Then, the spooky month ends with a HallowEast costume crawl around the East End.
So, pull the flannel shirts and blue jeans out of your closet and enjoy Charleston at its most comfortable! Happy Fall, Y’all!!!
